Little Miss Lonely-At-Work Pants

Someone (whose initials are ETS) left me a comment on one my previous entries and called me Little Miss Lonely-At-Work Pants...and that is exactly what I am...and it is ever so sad. My cubemate is gone on vacation and has been all week. We have been working with just a minimum of staff...meaning that in a building that usually houses well over 30 people (that I can think of off the top of my head...there are probably more that I don't think of)....there is only six (including myself). And the other person on my floor is out in the field. All the student assistants have gone home for the holidays...and I don't have anyone to talk to...unless the call me for help. Which reminds me...yesterday I got 6 calls all day...and one of those was my mom checking after the earthquake to make sure I was ok...and not pinned underneth my 17 in flatscreen monitor or anything. Today...the trend continues. So I am a Little Miss Lonely-At-Work Pants...who is sitting her talking on the phone and crocheting a baby blanket for her boss (ssshhhh don't tell is a surprise). And yes...I will be back here tomorrow...but only until noon...when the campus closes down for a mandatory week off.

Roxy and the big bad earthquake

Roxy was jumpy all night. Er...let me rephrase that. Roxy was more jumpy than usual last night. Then suddenly- she started running through the house tail between her legs and whining. Then she hid behind my dad who squatted down on the floor trying to engage her.

We were trying to figure out why she was freaking my dad logged into the USGS and they were having an aftershock...but we couldn't feel it. Maybe she could. It is said that animals sense these things.

Crimney!!!! That was the longest earthquake I have ever felt. It was also a gentle roller considering it was a 6.5 earthqake (Loma Prieta was a 6.9 or 7.1 depending on who you talk to). I wonder if there was damage near the epicenter...looks like San Simeon, CA was a close town. Knowing I am one of three or four people in the building, one of the anaylsts called from his field location and asked if we were ok...and asked if the servers seemed to be functioning...and told us to call him if we needed him...he is one of nicest guys that work in the building!!!!

Update: My parents just ran home to check on Roxy she was a little ball of nerves...but fine other than that...the cupboards in the kitchen were open but nothing fell out.

Update #2: Looks like we are making with our shaker. Apparently Paso Robos , CA suffered extensive damages and so far two people have been killed.

Feeling Crappy

I spent the entire weekend feeling very very crappy. Well not the entire weekend. The major yuckiness come on Friday night- after BFM left for Knotts Berry Farm. I went home and went right to bed...and didn't sleep a wink. The next day...I felt even worse. I felt like my head was going to explode any minute and out would pop my left eye...and brains and snot would shoot out in a lovely gush. Last night I searched the world over for I could at least sleep...have not slept well the night before. Fortunately I finally found a little sample of two pills...I took them and settled in to sleep and when I woke this morning...I am still feeling like I have a cold...but at least I am not feeling completely horrid....I hope this trend continues.
