A BlogMadness 2003 Update

By now you have probably heard that I am participating in BlogMadness 2003. I seriously didn't think I would get this far. It is down to 8 in the elimination bracket of my group. You might want to stop by and get in on the voting action.

Friday Five

1. What's the most daring thing you've ever done? I am so not daring it isn't even funny

2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of? I can't even think of one thing because I am so NOT a risk taker...maybe get a tattoo...but then there is the pain and needles and fear parts that I would have to worry about

3. On a scale of 1-10, what's your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it's a lifestyle) -1

4. What's the best thing that's ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky? The only thing that I can think of is that I bought my car on a whim....but that isn't really bold or risky is it? It is more of stupid.

5. ... and what's the worst? Again...not a risk taker...the only thing I can really think of is when I decided to give roller skating a try again several years ago and took a bad fall...I was bruised and sore for a month.

Here Comes The Tax Man

Ah...what is it that they say...there are only two sure things in life: death and taxes???

Well on Jan 22nd I telefiled my Federal taxes and I e-filed my state taxes. When I checked my possible refund dates online: the feds gave me Feb. 10th, and the state said: We do not have record of your tax return. Damnation. So...I today I looked at my online bankstatement and was pleased to find I had received my federal return early. Yey!!!! Still no word on my state refund though. So...I called the Franchise Tax board. Damnation- they never got my e-file. Urg. I am going to try again on Monday. We will see if I can actually get the e-file to work. I had a feeling that it wasn't going to work...for some reason...the damn state franchise tax board has it in for me. For the last four years I haven't been able to e-file or telefile for the state because they either spelled my name wrong (Yam May and Yma) and last year they had my date of birth down as April 14th 1975. No where near the right date (Jan 14 1974) so I had to get that fixed. So I thought I would be set this year...but it didn't go through anyways. I will try to e-file on Monday and if it doesn't go through this time I am going to go ahead and paper file.

Take Note Would-Be Suitors

I would rather have just one of these:

Than a whole box of other possibly crappy candy. That would be the See's Candy Butterscotch Square. Sinfully delightful! My very favoritest candy ever made anywhere! Whoo Hoo.

Ok...so I have a financial advisor

Yesterday I had my one hour "free" consultation with my possible financial advisor. I liked what I heard...even though some of it...(ok- a lot of it) sounded like it was in a different language.

We talked about things like: Building a cash reserve, debt management, insurance needs (including making the most out of my work benefits-which I think is majorly cool), income tax assessments, building equity for eventual house purchases, retirement and estate planning (I, personally, feel I am WAY too young to think about it...but I might as well get it out of the way for now).

So...I hired my financial advisor- frankly...the price was right and I need help. I would have never thought about it because in my head I am too young to starting thinking about this stuff...but she made me see that this is the PERFECT time to start looking at this stuff because "I have a good 25-30 years to start preparing for retirement".

She is currently licensed only in the states of CA and NV to practice...she is young (my age), working as part of one of the largest financial institutions in the world and looking to build a client base of her own. The hour consulation is FREE you are under NO OBLIGATION...and I get major brownie points with her if I can just refer her a couple of consults (you pay nothing for the consults but she gets credit at work for them). So if you are looking for someone to help you develop a definite financial plan or just have some questions- drop me a line with your contact information at badgroove@earthlink.net.

Burning Out or Watching Too Much GSN...You decide

Lately when finishing up with a caller I have an incredible urge to yell out "YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK...GOODBYE!" before I hang up.

I might need professional help.

How do they know?

How do "they" (the customers at work) know when I have removed my headset? How?? Regardless of the reason I take it off (whether I am about to get up and go off somewhere or if it is just making me uncomfortable) they inevitably call right when I have taken it off.

I wish I had a wireless one.

What I have been up to

Mostly- I have been procrastinating. Procrastinating starting SEVERAL different craft projects including: another baby afghan that is identical to the one I just finished because I decided I wanted to enter one in the fair, a blanket that is done entirely in single crochet that involves many many color changes (it is a pattern), I have scrunchies to make, a paint by number painting that was probably way to ambitious but I decided to givei t a whirl anyway, and snowflakes to crochet for next year's tree. None of which I started.

Besides that I spent the weekend cleaning, guest posting, and feeling like I am getting sick. I think I may be allergic to Roxy. I dunno how I could have her this long and not know it. Plus...she is shedding like a beast dog latey...or it could just be my yearly sinus trouble. Who knows?

Guest Posting

As I mentioned on Friday...I was given guest-posting rights on Pete's website. It was a very unexpected but very welcomed surprise...and I had a lot of fun with it.

First I posted about finding a Pete-Worthy Post.
Then I posted about an exploding whale.
Next I posted about the Superbowl.
I also posted about Commercials.
And finally...I welcomed Pete back from his trip to CA.

I felt the best guest post was by ETS about Toliet Paper...but Manny's bid to auction off genuine pete-used sheets made me laugh.

And the best part was Pete had kind words to say about all our posts upon his return. WhooHoo.
